Vera Wang’s achievements in the world of haute couture were highlighted and praised at The 2013 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards on Monday June 3rd at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. There she received the Geoffrey Beene 2013 Lifetime Achievement award.

Former figure skater cum fashion designer, Vera Wang is in a league of her own as an internationally acclaimed couturier, unrivaled creator of original bridal designs, and a burgeoning filmmaker. Keeping in line with her figure skating roots, Wang designed costumes for Olympians Nancy Kerrigan, Michelle Kwan, and Evan Lysacek in the early 1990s.

Vera Wang’s remarkable career began with a wedding gown design for Victoria Strauss, then fiancé of Max Kennedy, an impressive achievement for a designer who had only been in the business for two months. The name Vera Wang is now considered synonymous with “wedding gowns”. When a bride-to-be considers her perfect wedding day, an original Vera Wang bridal gown is sure to be on her list of dream wedding dresses to wear.

Beyond her talent for bridal design, Wang became a household name with her red carpet designs for Hollywood’s brightest stars. In 1993, actress Sharon Stone graced The Academy Awards red carpet in what was the first of many Vera Wang original gowns. She has gone on to create dresses for the likes of Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, and many other very lucky women who laud prestige and glamourous dress.

Vera Wang is a force of creative energy, direct insight, and superior style. Her laser-focused drive is currently compelling her to move into the world of movie directing. “I’d love to make a short film. There are many things on my mind right now, like the inside of dressmaking and what it takes to make it and what the experience really is like,” she says. “When I do a fashion show, I always tell a story. I have no other way to negotiate the wide world of fashion. I always have a plot line. There has to be something that makes me feel of the moment when I show eight or nine minutes of the clothes.” said recently in an article for USA Today. We’re certainly looking forward to that!
