Trina Turk Launches Fall 2014 Newsboy Chic Collection for NYFW

In Fall & Winter Trends, Fashion Designers, Trend Reports by Jessica Faith Marshall

After a quick trip to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents for the Carmen Marc Valvo show with Michelle Pajak-Reynolds, the FashionMingle.net team and I traveled to the Hudson Hotel for the Trina Turk presentation. The Hudson was the alternative venue for the Mercedes-Benz designers debuting their collections as presentations. The hotel had a downtown, edgy vibe with an attractive outer appearance.

We were backstage an hour before the show. Hair and makeup artists and the PR team were all crowding the backstage space, which was unusually small for a Mercedes-Benz event. Shortly before the event, we received a preview of the collection after the models were dressed and being arranged on white platforms. Trina Turk’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection gathered an impressive crowd.

The newsboy-inspired womenswear and menswear collection was right on trend. Some of my highlights included monochromatic jacquard suits, floral printed pants, collared button-down dresses, and beige menswear jackets. The overall color scheme emulated monotone tans and beiges with hints of vibrant pink, green, and blue.

The graphic prints and styling was the strongest aspect of the collection. Layers of jackets, jacquards, and mesh skirts created the perfect balance of youth and trends. My favorite garment was the black lapel jumpsuit, styled with a structured clutch, metal cuffs, and printed heels.

Overall, the collection was a success. Based on some of the department store buyers I ran into at the presentation, I expect these garments will be hanging in high end boutiques and department stores before long.
