Son Jung Wan Showcases Endless Elegance for Spring / Summer 2018

Son Jung Wan’s SS’18 ready to wear collection was shown at New York Fashion Week with an easy breezy style inspired by the French Riviera. The most beautiful light turquoise dress accented with peach flowers opened the show and I was immediately drawn in. The architectural structure mixed with a flare of tulle provide a masculine and feminine duality and a contradiction in these pieces that is also visible in the hair and make-up styling. Bright blue glitter eye make-up was mixed with natural skin and lips while the structured braid in the hair sat along with an intentionally messy ponytail.

This lovely collection of springtime dresses and slacks, and a few men’s pieces mixed in, presented us with the sweetest color pallet to sweep you away to a french paradise. Light turquoise, peach, soft blue, ocean blue, fuchsia, jewel toned turquoise and green, moving into the neutral hues of toupe, ivory and bright white, filled the runway with delight while french pop music played along. Reflective latex, lace, tulle, delicate sheer fabrics and jeweled glittery and floral embellishments are some of the materials that make up these pieces. There’s a sense of androgyny in all of Wan’s pieces, from the cuts and mix of contradictory materials. The collection was accessorized with fabulous metallic shoes in silver and rose gold.

Award winning designer Son Jung Wan is known for capturing the duality of women; sweet to chic, feminine to fierce. Her brand was established in 1989 and she has shown at New York Fashion Week 14 times. I’m sure we can look forward to many more seasons ahead…
