Favorite NYFW Runway Looks for Your Spring 2018 Wardrobe

In Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing by Jazmine Najé Bowen

During Fashion Week, the designers get to showcase their most valued and extraordinary looks for the upcoming seasons. One may think, “How can I ever pull any of this off?!” No worries. No matter how bold the colors are, or eccentric the patterns, you can make it a look for your Spring 2018 wardrobe.  Here are some of my favorite pieces from the Spring Summer 18’ collection from a handful of the talented designers. Fashion Mingle was able to get a closer look and I’m here to help you spice up your wardrobe this Spring 2018 wardrobe season!

Jarel Zhang

“Color-blocking” hit its peak in the early 60s/70s era. It was a time of experimenting and exiting conformity. It was also a time of expressing one’s personality as well as their interests, and what better way to do this than by playing with bright, neon colors? Designer Jarel Zhang’s line is full of eye-catching, bold pieces perfect for your transition into spring this year. Zhang’s line consists of oversized jackets and loose fitting co-ords.

My favorite piece is this cream and black, multi-pocketed oversized jacket. The simplicity of the colors leaves room to add in any color you like to spice it up. Also, it gives you the ability to wear it differently each time. The combinations are limitless! I would style this jacket with a pair of dark-wash boyfriend jeans, a loose fitted graphic tee, and a pair of classic yellow pumps to add that pop of color for one of your Spring 2018 wardrobe styles. Galtiscopio

Formerly known for its timeless fashion-watch collection, Galtiscopio, run by the designer Ying Lau, debuted its clothing line full of graphic designs and shimmery accented gowns. These pieces are the perfect go-to if you want to walk into a special event turning heads.  This line definitely experimented with cut outs we don’t normally see in conservative style evening gowns and cocktail dresses, yet adding sheer in the places where it makes the whole design come together.

The most interesting piece I seen and also the best in my opinion was the bright red bodysuit, with a leather band attached at the waist. The piece had long multi-colored strips of leather flowing down as the illusion of a skirt. This piece is such a statement and nothing that I have seen in a while. It was the only piece different from the rest of the collection which was completely necessary. It is bold, daring, and forces you to get out of your comfort zone. If I were to style someone in this piece, I wouldn’t want to add much to it because it would take away from the design with your Spring 2018 wardrobe. I would add a leather choker, and a pair of black leather sock booties to complete the grunge look! View the entire Galtiscopio collection.

Runa Ray

I always love when messages are displayed within a collection. Messages within a collection makes me appreciate it more than just the clothing itself. Runa Ray displayed an environmental message to save the planet by using flower peels and other natural elements for prints on her clothing designs. She also showed the earthy vibe through flowy, relaxed pieces accompanied by organic, floral tones. These intricate designs makes you feel like your one with the earth.

The business casual, two piece look was my favorite of the collection. It gave sultry, yet sexy vibe that couldn’t have been paired better with the perfectly messy bun as an option for your Spring 2018 wardrobe. If one were to miss the show, I feel this look would explain the whole collection. The white floral collared shirt, slightly fitted worked sensational with the oversized evergreen palazzo pants. We see the color-block at work again here with this look. If I was to style this, adding gold hoop earrings, a simple choker along with layered necklaces would give this a bit more life. Also, a pair of clear-strapped heels to not take too much away from the piece would complete the look. This style is essential for your closet this spring and summer season. Dan Liu

The theme of designer Dan Liu’s collection is called “The Lonely Beach Feelings”. Every piece was influenced by the elements of the beach and the feelings they bring while you’re visiting. The colors represent a certain aspect from the ocean down to the sand, which is perfect for your Spring 2018 wardrobe.

The piece that I liked the most was the geometric boxy white dress. It gave me a sense of chaos the way the dark blue and pink colors collided together, with bold triangles as borders. I can definitely sense the ocean within this dress because the waves are not always calm. They clash and roar together which this dress symbolizes beautifully. I would style this dress with a pair of pink heels strapped up the leg. I would accessorize with a lot of bracelets, bangles and white floral choker. View the entire Dan Liu collection.

Leanne Marshall

Last but not least, my favorite designer of the bunch, Leanne Marshall debuted a very fun, and colorful line. Every dress in the collection reminded me of a Disney princess. The warm colors bounces right off of each other and leaves a tropical aura. What makes it even better is that she got the design ideas from a New York City construction site as she tells Fashion Mingle Interviewer, Jessica Faith Marshall. You have to be talented to envision so much beauty from destruction.

My absolute favorite piece is this bright yellow, deep V-neck gown. The shot captured the dress so elegantly like the sun itself was walking towards you. This dress would be perfect to wear at Coachella or Afro-Punk. I would style this by adding clip-in flowers to my hair and a pair of tan platform sandals.

With all the different collections displayed, each of them can be a really good look. They are bold enough to grab the attention in the room, yet subtle enough for a calm evening this season. Versatility and an open-mind is key in fashion and will help you choose the best picks for your Spring 2018 wardrobe. View the entire Leanne Marshall collection.
