Boston Fashion Programs For Future Fashionistas

In Network, Student Mingle by Michalah Trumpey

There are three prominent Boston Fashion Programs that dominate in this city of education. The streets are lined with colleges, universities, and vocational schools. Campuses are buzzing with students zealous for new experiences, work, and internships. Specifically, Boston has three fantastic educational opportunities for those seeking a career in the fashion industry.

Boston Fashion Programs: Massachusetts College of Art and Design

Founded in 1873, Massachusetts College of Art and Design offers one of the oldest Fashion Design Programs in the United States. With roughly 2000 students attending each year, there is an excellent opportunity to create close connections with peers and professors. This affordable option of schooling provides a four-year program for those looking to obtain a bachelor’s degree and a two-year certificate for students looking to advance their skills or careers in fashion design. Placed in the top 30 best colleges for art in America, this Boston fashion program takes pride not only in “exploring the relationship between classic principles and bold innovation,” but also the marketing, manufacturing, and production procedures in the fashion industry. In addition to fashion design, students can explore roles in photography, illustration, and multimedia. Furthermore, Massachusetts College of Art and Design features an annual spring Fashion Show where the students present their creations.

Boston Fashion Programs: Boston’s School of Fashion Design

On this list of Boston fashion programs is Boston’s School of Fashion Design. Located on Newbury Street, one of the hottest shopping streets in the United States, it is the only school in New England that focuses solely on fashion design. The school year starts with the basics, and nearing the end of the first semester, students take a trip to New York City in a luxury limo! This trip focuses on fashion exhibits, behind the scene tours, and a shopping experience at the fabric store ‘Mood.’ In addition, there is a winter fundraiser, “Sewn for the Holidays,” where students create stockings, hats, and aprons to sell at a silent auction. In the spring, the School of Fashion Design hosts a fashion show on Newbury Street that doubles as a fundraiser for students’ educational fees. One of the most influential experiences is the opportunity to attend Boston Fashion Week to showcase work and network with established industry professionals. This Boston fashion program offers a two-year certificate or a three-year degree in fashion design.
