During New York Fashion Week, one might be excused for thinking it odd to cover a taxidermist, but one such “rogue taxidermist” by the name of Beth Beverly, certainly qualified for inclusion. By forging a match made in sartorial heaven with famed designer Cesar Galindo, Beverly earned a spot in the coverage of one of the fashion world’s most exclusive events.

Tonight AMC premiers a new series “IMMORTALIZED“, an 8 episode exploration of the world of rogue taxidermists. FashionMingle.net was invited to the pop-up event during New York Fashion Week to promote the series and had the opportunity to interview Philadelphia’s very own rogue taxidermist who will be featured tonight in the premier episode.

Beverly believes that taxidermy can be coveted fashion as well as art — and she has the feathered, furred and boned accessories to prove it. “It’s an interesting business. It takes a sense of humor and it’s not for the faint of heart” Beverly shared.

Beverly likes to accentuate what nature has given creatures and add some fantasy. Her first experience in turning a dead animal into fashionable headwear came while noticing how she could fan the wings out of a pheasant she was skinning and create different shapes. “It just seemed like a natural progression to me, to want to put it on my head” Beverly explains.

She explained that often people don’t understand that she really is a passionate animal lover and how the birds that she works with read “fashion” to her. “I’ve never really been drawn to things you can hang on your wall for 100 years. I like to take things out and give them fresh air”.

Her extravagant hats have made Beverly a favorite at the millinery competitions held at equestrian events, and she has won awards at the Devon Ladies Day Hat Competition, Brandywine Polo Club and Radnor Hunt Club.

Her work has been featured in such prominent publications as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Daily News. Her work has been exhibited in several art galleries, including La Luz de Jesus in Los Angeles, Art in the Age and Michael Vincent Gallery. In 2011, Beverly’s regal taxidermy dog won “Best in Show” at the annual Carnivorous Nights show held by MART (Minnesota Association of Rogue Taxidermists).

Beth Beverly has a blog where you can follow all her projects and she can be found on Twitter and Pinterest.
