1970s Fashion Design Revisited in Derek Lam Fall/Winter 2016 Collection at NYFW

The Fall/Winter 2016 shows at NYFW all seem to have one thing in common: a nod to an era gone by, particularly the 1970s.

In my observation, it would appear that Derek Lam drew some of his inspiration for his Fall/Winter 2016 Ready-to-Wear collection from the era, with hints of the 60s. Featuring sweet and simple Victorian- style blouses paired with either ankle-length pants or an A-line skirt, Lam was able to transform the ’70s Secretary Look into an excellent modern ensemble.

Lam paired heavy, belted fur coats with bright lattice and gradient prints and chic leather booties. Coats and tunics with horn-shaped toggle closures created powerful centerpieces for classic two and three piece ensembles.

The show finished with simple yet seasonably elegant knit with sequin cocktail dresses, as well as simple flowing, statuesque gowns that look like they could have easily stepped out of Studio 54.
