TICKET TO THE TENTS: NYFW Fall 2015 Day 4 Trend Report

TARTAN

It seems to be that Carmen Marc Valvo is a fan of plaid, or as trend jargon dictates, tartan.  Valvo’s runway featured tartan looks from blazers, to coats, dresses and scarves.  Even his flowing skirts had the tartan print. The use of tartan in his collection, added Carmen’s runway to the list of runways featuring the popular prep school theme that we’ve seen earlier this week (Rachel Antonoff, Lacoste, etc.). To further clench the theme, models wore glasses, bow-ties, suspenders and skinny ties.

BOLD PRINTS

Plaid remained a popular print of choice for Custo Barcelona, who also showed his Fall 2015 Collection on Day 3 of Fashion Week. However, in addition to numerous plaid separates from boots to skirts, Custo featured a variety of prints. On his runway the familar Navajo-inspired prints appeared, geometric prints, and even prints created by sewing different colors and textiles of fabric together. It was a very unique and fun runway.

David Tlale presented an array of clothes, that appear to feature a print that he may have designed himself. With modern technology, if a designer can’t find a print that he likes, he can always design one himself and have it printed onto fabric. This looks to be what David Tlale did with his first few looks that featured a purple, tan, and black paintbrush print that looked like an artist painted onto the canvas.  I also felt a bit of an Asian-inspired vibe from a few looks that featured small obi-type belts, & wrap silhouettes.
