American Fashion Designer, Nicole Miller, is the epitome of success. After creating her namesake label in 1982 in partnership with Bud Konheim, Nicole Miller opened up her first shop on Madison Avenue in New York in 1986 and hasn’t stopped since. The name Nicole Miller is synonymous with classic design and American Fashion! I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing the iconic Fashion Designer three times, with the latest being backstage at New York Fashion Week. As a Style Editor and Fashion Blogger, I’m always amazed by the way designers design season after season, collection after collection and still keep it fresh and Nicole Miller does it so well!
During the interview Nicole informed me that her inspiration for Spring 2015 was Brazil, “Well, I’ve been to Brazil a few times and I was listening to this old Peter Alan song and it said “I go to Rio” and I was feeling nostalgic about it!”
While Nicole’s nostalgia about Brazil inspired the collection, the clothes evoked feelings of excitement from me and the need to spontaneously travel to Brazil right then and there! Her collection truly transported me to the country. It didn’t hurt that the runway for her show was a replica of the famous, black and white, wave pattern, Copacabana sidewalk either.

In addition to the famous promenade, Nicole was inspired by the flora and birds of Brazil and shared a memory with me of a foam rubber parakeet she purchased on the beach there and has kept till this day. The birds and floral inspirations were very apparent in the collection. They were the perfect color contrast to the black and white separates inspired by the Copacabana promenade. There were a lot of fruit prints, with pineapples being the favored fruit of choice, but there were also bananas and cherries featured on the clothes. The collection was youthful, but featured the classic silhouettes that Nicole is known for, making the collection perfect for any age.
