Update: Talia Castellano Loses Battle With Cancer

Update 7/17/2013 – 13 year old aspiring fashion designer and YouTube superstar, Talia Castellano, lost her battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 16. Talia was an inspiration to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. It is in times such as these that we reflect on the value of social media and it’s force for good. Talia’s YouTube Channel, “Makeup is My Wig” helped an immeasurable number of children with cancer deal with their struggles a little easier and made so many smile and feel hope. Thank you Talia for your talent, courage, and willingness to share your message with the world.

Imagine being diagnosed with cancer at 7 years old. Imagine dreaming of becoming a fashion designer. Talia Castellano, now 13 years old, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma at the age of 7, and her dream of becoming a fashion designer is coming true with the help of fashion designer Urbana Chappa

Because of her love of makeup and fashion, Talia started a YouTube channel, “Make-up is my Wig,” showcasing her talents and keeping us posted on her battle with cancer. She has over 600,000 subscribers and continues to record videos from her hospital bed You can also follow her story on Facebook and Twitter.

Talia Castellano’s youtube.com tutorials and touching story gained national attention and earned her an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show where she become an honorary Covergirl.

After seeing Talia on the Ellen show, designer Urbana Chappa reached out to help her dream come true. A breast cancer survivor herself, Urbana recently catapulted to success in the fashion industry, presenting her collection during New York Fashion Week in February, only 6 months after designing her first collection, and most recently at LA Fashion Week.

Urbana spent four days in Orlando with Talia; and together they sketched the designs for Talia’s lookbook. Talia wanted to create a trendy look for teens in her line “That Bald Chick,” a name she chose to identify her brand and represent who she is. The line reflects Talia’s personal mantra, “Bald is Beautiful.” All of the proceeds from this collection will go to Talia’s family  to help cover her medical costs and a cancer foundation.
