New York Fashion Week Street Style Trends

In Behind-the-Scenes, Fashion Week by Jessica Faith Marshall

It’s likely you will never meet anyone with an interest in the fashion industry that does not admire runway shows from designers as glamorous and high-end as Badgley Mischka and Reem Arca. The perfection of the model’s hair, the conceptualized beauty looks, the six-inch stilettos, and the sleek model expressions is considered irresistible to all members and admirers of the fashion industry.

As attractive as the glamour and perfection of a runway show can be, the fashion industry would not have trends or individual style without the brave men and women on the streets that establish consistency throughout fashion and culture worldwide. This post is dedicated to New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 season of street style trends and looks that inspires the seasons of runway shows to come.

Wide Brimmed Hat

From all of the street style photographs online, and from a recent hat trial of all of the fabulous hats in BCBGMAXAZRIA, I have extracted this growing trend of the wide brimmed hat. Its wool material and dramatic flair is what is attracting all of the fashion bloggers and stylists to this hat. For hat styling inspiration, be sure to view Rachel Zoe’s New York runway collections. The Statement Necklace

A collection of solid, beaded, printed, and innovative statement necklaces can alter an entire wardrobe in an instant. You can find extremely bold necklaces with fabric, chain, beads, and stones in modern stores worth investing in. Before investing in one of these expensive works of art, be sure to find one that reflects your personal style that makes it personalized to you. Clutch It

One prominent trend amongst the New York crowd is taking your bag, with or without straps, large or miniature, structured or oversized, and clutching it from the bottom. This has always been consistently seen on the runways season after season (particularly Badgley Mischka and Valentino), but now the streets are taking this accessory update into action. It’s a great way to add more of a contemporary, modern element to a more glamorous ensemble, or even a great way to change the overall look of that purse you’ve had for years. 100% White

Womenswear and menswear both share this trend of the full fresh look. The absence of color showcases a new bold, daring trend that is unique from the cacophony of prints and color. The element of monochromatic clothing with a surprising statement garment or accessory is another ideal method to wear this trend. Whether its a full white gown with a white fur stole, or white pants, a white silk blouse, and a matching blazer, this trend transitions from day to night.
