The Naeem Kahn NYFW show was among one of the most anticipated collections of Spring / Summer 2017. I was familiar with Naeem Kahn and his designs, but this was my first time covering one of his shows. Sure enough, I was in for a treat!
I arrived at the venue and headed backstage. This was not the first time I’d been backstage at this venue. However, this time something seemed different. The excitement and energy levels were at an all time high! I made my way to the press pit to secure a spot in the front. As I walked out I noticed some interesting alterations to the runway for the Naeem Kahn NYFW show. A major difference was the entrance to the runway, now covered with mirrors hung at different levels to give a unique backdrop to the collection. Also added where sliding doors that would open as the first model took the runway.
Naeem Kahn’s legacy from India to America was present in his new collection. As expected, the Naeem Kahn NYFW collection did not disappoint. Ready to wear dresses in bold reds, whites and blacks opened the collection, which then flowed into orange and yellow patterns. Later in the collection, designs featured more sheer fabrics accented with sparkling greens, purples and nude colors. Keeping true to the SS 2017 fashion, his collection featured lots of floral patterns and odes to summer.
The collection made its way into extravagant gowns and pieces featuring sheer fabrics covered in fringe in vibrant yellows, pale blues, and bold sparkling reds. The impact that these bright colors made on the audience was clear. Naeem Kahn showed a lot of passion and innovation for his work and his vision as a designer and an artist.
After a few days of talking about the show, and waiting to see what was in store for us, it is clear to say that Naeem Kahn was a highlight of the week and a perfect send off for the NYFW Spring / Summer 2017 season!
