Interview with Lubov Azria, Creative Director of Hervé Léger

FashionMingle.net:
Since revealing the Hervé Léger collection in 2008, what has been your biggest accomplishment so far?

Lubov Azria:
I think our biggest accomplishment has been to improve the designs every single year. It gets better and more amazing every year. Whether we make it with spandex, without spandex, printed or not printed, we improve the bandage dress concept year after year.

FashionMingle.Net:
How do you think his French background and your American sensibility influence your line?

Lubov Azria:
I think it helps. The French they are very passionate, very much enthusiastic about everything and they believe in love.

FashionMingle.net:
What is your advice for designers trying to break into this industry?

Lubov Azria:
Follow your dreams. Create your own destiny and future. Find the right company and don’t just go get a job in the beginning. You have to really find the right company to work for. You can design your own future.

FashionMingle.Net:
How does your team manage to design for the contemporary BCBGMaxAzria brand as well as the more sophisticated Hervé Léger brand?

Lubov Azria: We have two distinct teams working on the collections. At Hervé Léger we have a team that is really focused on it’s DNA and the different techniques that we do. We really love fashion, we love art, we love travel and we are inspired by beautiful things, but also by amazing people, so for us it isn’t that difficult to design for both brands.

FashionMingle.net:
What does fashion really mean to you?

Lubov Azria:
It means living a dream. Right now this is an incredible dream. I am so blessed every single day that we get to do this. We can afford to do this, and it is a blessing to enjoy it with someone that I love and care for.
