Working Behind-the-Scenes at Austin Fashion Week 2014

Compared to last year’s experience, Austin Fashion Week 2014 was certainly unique. I volunteered, work black everyday, and was surprised by the results of the winning Mash Up Teams selected for the People’s Choice and Critique’s Choice Award.

The Mash Up teams awarded this year during Austin Fashion Awards certainly shocked the attendees. Everyone in the Austin Fashion Community expected the same team, with a four-year winning streak, to win this year. The Critics Choice winner was team Saint Cathena and the People’s Choice winner was team Chrysalis Evolution. The two winning teams shocked us all as they are very different design teams. Working backstage with the designers was an amazing experience for me, being an emerging designer. I was fortunate enough to dress models, grab gum for the designers, hold needles and fashion tape, and line up the models for the runway. Overall, Austin Fashion Week 2014 was a great success, and leaves me wondering what they will think of next when they bring the runway to Dallas this November for Dallas Fashion Week.
